Overview of Meg 2: The Trench:
The story begins in the Cretaceous Period, where various creatures hunt smaller animals. A T-Rex targets a group of small but lethal dinosaur predators known as Snappers. Suddenly, a Megalodon bursts from the water, seizing the T-Rex and dragging its lifeless body beneath the waves.
Fast forward to the present, where Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) emerges from a shipping container aboard a vessel navigating the Philippine Sea. His mission is to prevent a group of men from illegally dumping toxic waste into the ocean. After gathering intel, he takes down the thugs and leaps into the water, where he is rescued by Mac (Cliff Curtis) and Rigas (Melissanthi Mahut) in their helicopter.
At a marine research facility in China, Jiuming Zhang (Wu Jing) is testing an exo-suit designed for underwater operations. He is the uncle of Meiying (Sophia Cai) and the brother of the late Suyin, with Jonas now acting as a guardian for Meiying. They attend an event hosted by Jiuming’s business partner, Hilary Driscoll (Sienna Guillory). Jiuming honors Suyin and their father, pledging to continue their oceanic research legacy. He then introduces Haiqi, a captured Megalodon that seems to respond to his commands. Meanwhile, Jonas spots a suspicious individual named Montes (Serigo Peris-Mencheta) watching him during the event.
